Use a metal tape measure

Outside the recess
 
If you want your blind to be fitted outside the recess: 

• If your window has a frame around it measure the width to the outside edge of the frame, if there is no frame and just a plaster recess then measure the width of the recess and add an extra 5cm each side, ie 10cm in total.

• To measure the drop of the blind, measure the top of the recess and as the blind will be fitted on the wall above the recess add 15-20cm to allow for this.  If there is a window sill measure to this, if there is not a sill then add a further 8cm for the bottom of the drop. (Just check there is space above and below your recess, eg is there coving or a radiator in the way?)

Inside the Recess
  
If you want the blind to be fitted inside the recess then:

• Measure the exact width of the recess in three places - at the top, in the middle and at the bottom, and use the narrowest measurement.
 
• Measure the exact drop of the recess, again take three measurements, left, centre and right hand side and use the shortest measurement.

We will take 2cm off your width measurement to allow for free movement of the recessed blind
